Chennai, June 18 - Lokesh Kanagaraj has become a talk of the town and is one of the sought-after directors after the mega-blockbuster success of "Vikram", starring Kamal Haasan. The maverick filmmaker is now gearing up for his next film which will reunite him with Thalapathy Vijay after the blockbuster "Master".
The movie, tentatively titled "Thalapathy 67" is expected to go on floors by the end of this year and it will be a gangster drama film as confirmed by Lokesh himself in a recent media conversation. Now, according to Pinkvilla, Vijay will play the role of a character closer to his actual age in the film.
It is reported that the film's story has some flashback sequences featuring the younger version of Thalapathy's character while a major part of the story will see Vijay in the 40s. He will reportedly be sporting a salt and pepper look, and the character presentation will be on the lines of Rajinikanth's classic blockbuster "Baasha" (1995).
Lokesh is creating his own cinematic universe and "Vikram" was part of it. The first film in the LCU was Karthi's "Kaithi". Lokesh recently said that his "Maanagaram" (2017), and "Master" (2021) will be standalone films while his upcoming movies will be a part of LCU, and "Thalapathy 67" might be the next film in the LCU.
"He definitely wants to bring Vijay also into the universe since he is playing a gangster. There is a version of Thalapathy 67 that has the presence of some characters from Kaithi and Vikram in it, but there are ample formalities and Lokesh is waiting to get approval from all the stakeholders before locking the final draft", says the report.
Thalapathy 67 will be produced by Seven Screen Studio and it is rumored to have Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the female lead. Thalapathy Vijay, meanwhile, is currently shooting for his Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie with director Vamshi Paidipally. Produced by Dil Raju, the movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and it is scheduled to release on Pongal 2023.
