Box Office: 'Brahmastra' Scored The Biggest Opening Week of Pandemic Era For A Bollywood Film

Mumbai, September 16 - Director Ayan Mukerji's passion project Brahmastra Part One: Shiva has brought some joy to the Hindi film industry and scored the biggest opening week at the box office during the pandemic era for a Bollywood movie.
The fantasy action adventure film took the flying start and scored 124.49 crores net collection in the opening weekend for all languages. The movie witnessed a drop over the weekdays but still managed to put up a decent hold knowing the fact that it got mixed reviews, and minted 48.93 crores net from Monday to Thursday, pushing the total net collection to 173.22 crores in the first week.
"Brahmastra" is only the second Bollywood movie during the covid-19 pandemic to score 100+ crore in the opening week. The Hindi language collection of the movie is 156.4 crores net after the first week. Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi was the last film to reach this milestone and scored 120.66 crores net in November 2021.
Overall, "Brahmastra" is the 18th highest 1st-week collection film of all time in the Hindi language while it currently stands at 39th spot among the all-time biggest Hindi grosser at the domestic box office. The movie is likely to reach the 33rd position among the all-time Hindi grosser after the end of the second week. Meanwhile, at the worldwide box office, it has collected 290.15 crores so far and will cross the 300 crores mark today and will become only the second Bollywood film after "The Kashmir Files" to achieve the feat since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior".
Produced by Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures, and Prime Focus in association with Star Studios, the movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni along with Shah Rukh Khan in key roles. The film follows Shiva, a DJ, who discovers that he is the agnyastra, a celestial weapon in human form, holding the power of fire within him. He attempts to prevent the strongest of the astras, the Brahmāstra, from falling into the hands of dark forces that are connected to his past.
