Even though being the son of one of the most renowned writers of Bollywood Salim Khan, Salman didn't use his father's name to request a chance.
The actor had his fair share of struggles to finally secure a chance to act in the film industry. Luck was on Salman's side too when he got selected to play the lead role in "Maine Pyar Kiya" a year later his debut, which made him an overnight sensation. His charming looks and innocent attitude caught the eyes of many people. Post the huge success of MPK, Salman consolidated his position with the super success of movies like Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa, and Saajan. He became the talk of the industry and one of the youth's favorites. He was even being compared to Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was the No 1 star in the industry back then.
After the early success, Salman didn't have a smooth road in the next few years, as he gave 7 back to back flops in a row post his initial 6 successful movies. He didn't manage to select the best scripts then, as a result, some magazines even started to say his stardom has ended. But he overcame this adversity and Rose again to prominence with the super success of movies like Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! and Karan Arjun which once again reaffirmed him at the top.
The years 1996-1999 are regarded as one of the best phases of Khan's career where 8 out of 13 movies he did were hits. Salman became the actor with the most number of hits in the 90's decade including the biggest hit of the decade Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!
Then came a new decade but this again was not so smooth for Salman. Even though he was an established star by then his personal life and back-to-back controversies during this time stopped big producers from offering him films. He was projected negatively by the media thereby giving him a bad boy image. Despite all this, the core audiences never stopped supporting him. He used to work with small producers and new directors during this period but regardless of this, his movies continued to take huge openings at the box office. Movies like Tere Naam, Salaam- E -Ishq, Garv, Lucky - No Time for Love, Wanted, and Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya are the biggest examples of this.
Salman had command over the biggest fanbase in rural circuits in India unlike any other actor used to have. Post the success of Wanted, the actor realized which type of movies the audiences want and started his dominant phase at the box office.
The Peak era of Salman khan at the box office started in 2010 with Dabangg after which all his movies in which he played the lead role did 100 cr + business at the box office. During the time gap between 2010-2019, Salman Khan delivered 9 big blockbusters out of his total 16 releases. He became the only actor after Rajesh Khanna to reach this level of Success which makes him one of the biggest stars of all time in Bollywood along with Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, and Rajesh Khanna.
Salman Khan is the only star whose movies pull the masses irrespective of the reviews. He will next seen be in an extended cameo role in the movie Godfather alongside Chiranjeevi where he will make his Telugu debut.
