Cine Impact Fellowships For 10 Teams of Budding Filmmakers

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS) With time, filmmaking is witnessing a huge change and the emerging filmmakers are open to welcome new changes and accept the challenges. To support these budding filmmakers, The Hyphen, a private firm has selected 10 film-making teams from around the country for making short documentaries on various social issues.## All teams will be provided training to create the documentaries. The best documentary will be given a reward of Rs 1 lakh. This will be in addition to the grant which each team will be getting for making their documentary.## The teams have been asked to give the short films for selection and each of them has given one short film. Now, on the basis of that they are selected for Cine Impact Fellowship. There are four jury members for deciding the winners - Saibal Chatterjee, National Award-winning film critic; Utpal Borpujari, National Award-winning filmmaker and film critic; Arnab Banerjee, film critic and journalist and Faisal Khan, film critic, and curator.## Arpesh Mishra, founder of The Hyphen said: "We were pondering on ways to raise awareness around diverse social issues. In one of our brainstorming sessions, we felt there are so many young filmmakers who want to further hone their skills and showcase their creativity in a productive manner. That's how Cine Impact came into place and we then partnered with various organizations, film critics, and filmmakers to create a successful collaboration. The idea behind the Cine Impact Film Fellowship was to promote independent storytelling on social issues among young Indian filmmakers. We wanted to bring the best filmmakers".## While talking about the selection criteria, film critic and jury member Utpal Bhorpujari said: "The films were chosen on the basis of the overall average of ratings given individually by the jury members. The jury looked at the films on the basis of treatment, concept, and execution. Technical competence was also kept in mind but given that this competition was for amateur and student filmmakers who were working on minuscule budgets, more emphasis was given on the final outcome of the vision they started with".## He added: "The ideas that were presented in the films were wide-ranging and relevant to the current times. Some of the films were good beyond the expectations of the jury. As someone from Assam, I am particularly happy that 'Dead Birds on the Wire', a film made by a group called Maati based in the small town of Golaghat, could make it to the final selection".## Aditya, a young filmmaker from the team Brain Tikka which includes four members along with him, namely, Harshil Tewatia, Harshvardhan Ojha, Arjun Roy. Their short film 'Diya' has been selected.## Aditya, a self-learned filmmaker hails from Lucknow and did BSc Honours in Mathematics from Delhi University. Talking about the shooting of the film, he said: "The idea stayed with me for a long time before it was executed, It took me a few weeks to write it down. The movie was shot in around a week, and we shot in colleges of Delhi University - South Campus, Satya Niketan and around Kailash Colony".## He explained the concept and said: "Migrating from a small town to a big city brings with it, a lot of apprehension and fear, especially for women who have been brought up in a patriarchal setup, and are maybe the first female in their family to move out. This apprehension is something I have personally seen, but it's not spoken about a lot. I did not want to showcase the new city as a threat, rather I wanted to highlight that something we consider a safe space, can also be harmful and it's necessary to listen when someone tries to tell you something. It is even more important to look behind what's spoken".## Harishwaran Raja, who is from Bengaluru along with his team member Koushik has made a short film, 'The Brahma'. It is a short film about two friends. Harishwaran and Koushik from the team Indian Academy Degree College took 5 days to complete the shoot. "We prepared 3 months ago before we went to shoot the film", said Aditya.## He added: "My short film, 'The Brahma' is a silent film, the initial idea was to make a social, dark comedy movie but we didn't have enough funds. So, I decided to make a silent film but it should be pure silent without even a single dialogue, so I decided one character should be deaf and dumb, another character is blind so basically there will be no conversation between them, we started like that. I directed the film".## Stay tuned...

Rajesh Khanna biography author charts the superstar's rise and fadeout

Mumbai, Dec 30 (IANS) The rise of Jatin Khanna, better known as Rajesh Khanna, Bollywood's first superstar who commanded a colossal female fan following, reflected the socio-political changes simmering in India of his time, according to his biographer, Gautam Chintamani, whose book is the starting point for Nikhil Dwivedi's just-announced biopic. ## The 1962 Sino-Indian War, said the author of 'Dark Star: The Loneliness Of Being Rajesh Khanna', led to the questioning of the Nehruvian worldview and his version of socialism, and for the first time since Independence, the vote share of the Indian National Congress dipped in the third general election. The rise of the actor mirrored the growing sentiment against the status quo. ## In a conversation with IANS, Chintamani shared anecdotes from the actor's life, demystified the enigma that Rajesh Khanna was and spoke about the subsequent dethroning of the actor by Amitabh Bachchan, who continues to be very much a part of India's showbiz story. ## Explaining why he chose Rajesh Khanna as the subject of his book, Chintamani said: "If you think of filmstars or cultural icons such as Rajesh Khanna, then there are very few people whose life warrants to be told like a story. For me, he's someone who captured the zeitgeist, redefined it and left such a big impression that for generations, film actors have followed that template. That's what got me interested in Rajesh Khanna." ## Despite his success, the superstar never meddled with the scripts or the director's vision. "He never forced filmmakers to change their scripts for the purpose of accommodating his stardom," Chintamani said. "He was a very confident actor."## Talking about the skills of the superstar, Chintamani underlined two of them. One was the actor's way around with silences and the other was how he blended seamlessly with the staging, blocking and overall arrangement of a scene. ## "An actor's prowess also comes across in his silences," Chintamani said, adding: "And if you see some of the best Rajesh Khanna films, he is a part of the whole mise en scene, where he may not have dialogues at times, but his presence is so powerful that you get an idea of what a confident actor he is." ## For all his superstardom, Khanna couldn't escape a dramatic reversal of fortunes. Khanna had a falling out with the screenwriter duo Salim-Javed, who, just like Khanna, changed the rules of the game (in terms of writing) and played a huge part in the creation of Amitabh Bachchan as a subsequent superstar. ## Chintamani explained: "The writing on the wall became clear with the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan as the angry young man in 1973 and the falling out Mr Khanna had with screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar combined somewhere. It was very clear that Rajesh Khanna's romantic films would no longer be the mainstay of the industry. The emergence of Amitabh Bachchan, along with the popularity of Rishi Kapoor as a young hero, all happened at the same time." ## Chintama added: "Between 1973 and 1975 there were films such as 'Aap Ki Kasam' and 'Roti', which were very big hits, but post-1975, with the success of 'Deewar' and 'Sholay', the entire scenario changed." ## It is not that Rajesh Khanna did not keep in touch with the changing times. What changed was how the audience perceived him. And it coincided with the rise of a new and brighter star. Bollywood's first superstar soon found himself being sucked into a black hole. ## "He did try to shift gears and keep up with the times, but he was so good in what he did as a romantic hero or a dramatic star that it was difficult for people in the industry to imagine him doing action films. If you see the transition between 1975 and 1980, it was a very difficult phase for Rajesh Khanna," Chintamani pointed out. ## The author concluded by talking about the man behind the superstar. "He was very close to his daughters and he counted that as one of his greatest achievements," Chintamani recalled. "Although my book doesn't look at Rajesh Khanna as the family man because it doesn't focus a lot on that, he was very fond of his grandchildren and children." ##

Now, controversy dogs 'Prithviraj' over the great king's legacy and clan

Jaipur, Dec 30 (IANS) The Gurjars in Rajasthan have threatened to stop the screening of Bollywood flick 'Prithviraj' starring Akshay Kumar if the movie continues using the term 'Rajput' for Prithviraj Chauhan. ## The community claimed that Prithviraj was from the Gurjar community and he was not a Rajput. However, leaders from the Rajput community have strongly rejected their claim and said that Gurjars were initially 'Gauchar', who then converted into Gujjars and then Gurjars. They basically come from Gujarat and hence got this name, claimed Shri Rajput Karni Sena national spokesperson Vijendra Singh Shekhawat. ## This is a place-related term and not a caste-related term, he added. ## Two days back, members of the Gurjar community had staged a protest in Ajmer, threatening to stall the screening of the film if Prithviraj Chauhan is not shown as a Gurjar king. ## Gurjar leader Himmat Singh said, "#Prithviraj Movie is made on the basis of Prithviraj Raso written by Chand Bardai and the same was shown in the teaser of Prithviraj movie.. After studying the inscriptions available in history, researchers have believed that Chand Bardai wrote it around 400 years back after the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan. In the 16th century, the Raso epic was written which is fictional. The epic is written by Chand Bardai in Pringal language which is a mixture of the Bajra and Rajasthani language. ## During the reign of Gurjar emperor Prithviraj Chauhan, the Sanskrit language was used but not the Pringal language which has been used by the poet, said Himmat Singh. ## These are historical proofs that Rajputs were never in existence before the 13th century, we have proved this from historical facts and it has also been accepted by the people of Rajput caste at present and hence they claimed themselves as Kshatriya and not as Rajputs. In fact, even during a dispute, after the unveiling of Gurjar emperor Mihir Bhoj's statue in Dadri and Gwalior, Rajputs submitted their caste as Kshatriya in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, said Singh. ## The controversy over the movie is because the word Rajput was used at the time of Chand Bardai and not during the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan, he said adding "Prithviraj Chauhan's father Someshwar has been connected with the Gujjar caste, and hence the son should himself be a Gurjar," he added. ## Shekhawat said that it's true that Rajput is a title and not a caste. But then it is also a fact that Rajputs symbolize those who are connected to the land, which means sons of the soil who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their land. ## It is true that the 13th century did not find mention of the Rajput word, Lord Ram was Kshatriya but he has never been known as a Rajput. Rajput is a title which means son of Raja, the legacy which continues amongst royals where kings get the title, he added. ## He said that Someshwar was the king of Gurjarland which was a part of today's Gujarat and Rajasthan and hence was called Gurjadhipati or Gurjaradheer which connected south Rajasthan and Gujarat. All claims of the Gurjar clan are hence baseless, he claimed. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Box Office: '83' Becomes Only The Second Bollywood Film In 20 Months To Cross Rs. 100 Crores Worldwide

Mumbai, December 29 - Ranveer Singh-led cricket biopic, "83" has become the second Bollywood film during the covid-19 pandemic to gross Rs. 100 crores worldwide. The first film to reach the milestone and of course, finishing far ahead of it is Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi", which will also finish 2021 as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with a total worldwide total of Rs. 293 crores. ## The Kabir Khan-directed "83", meanwhile, has earned Rs. 107.89 crores so far in just 5 days. At the Indian box office, it has grossed Rs. 71.98 crores for all languages while at the overseas, it minted Rs. 35.91 crores. Before "83" and "Sooryavanshi", Tiger Shroff's "Baaghi 3" (March 2020) was the last film to reach the Rs. 100 crores worldwide. ## Though the box office numbers of "83" aren't as strong as those of "Sooryavanshi" (at the same time), the movie hasn't disappointed with whatever it has managed to collect, knowing the circumstances it is playing currently in theaters. "Sooryavanshi" had enjoyed almost a free run for at least two weeks at the box office, plus, the second wave was almost died down by then.## "83", which was one of the two films with "Sooryavanshi" to hold back for nearly two years for the theatrical release, however, unlike "Sooryavanshi" is facing a double clash with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Pushpa - The Rise", plus, the threat of the third wave is growing day by day, which is leading to night curfews and theaters shut down in the some of the states.## The makers of "83", meanwhile, will enjoy the postponement announcement of Shahid Kapoor's "Jersey", which was slated for December 31st release. It will now help "83" to maintain shows and screens, which will eventually help it to grow its collection from the second weekend onwards till January 7, on which SS Rajamouli's "RRR" will release. ## Stay tuned...

Akshay Kumar Delivers His First HGOTY Of His Career With 'Sooryavanshi'

Mumbai, December 29 - Akshay Kumar-fronted cop-drama "Sooryavanshi" will finish 2021 as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The Rohit Shetty-directed stood tall among most of the films during the covid-19 pandemic year and delivered what the film industry had hoped from this biggie. ## "Sooryavanshi" was supposed to release in March 2020. However, the covid-19 pandemic left the makers with no choice but to postpone it. It was later announced for April 30, 2022, and once again, the second wave of the pandemic delayed the plans. ## Just when the rumors started making noises about the "Sooryavanshi's" direct OTT release, the makers announced its theatrical release on the occasion of Diwali after cinemas in Maharashtra were permitted to operate from October 22. And this time, things went as per plan and the film finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel and was released on November 5.## "Sooryavanshi" was Bollywood's best foot forward to bring the audiences back to theaters in large numbers and to their grace, the audience rushed to theaters to watch the film. The movie took the opening of Rs. 26.29 crores, which delighted the entire film industry and exhibitors. It carried the momentum and finished the 3-day opening weekend on high with Rs. 77.06 crores, followed by Rs. 120.66 crores first full week. ## The 4th film in Rohit Shetty's cop universe had another excellent second week with Rs. 45.57 crores. The first two week's collection of "Sooryavanshi" wasn't surprising as it enjoyed a solo release before the next Bollywood release on November 19. Even after new releases, the strong word of mouth helped it to dominate the collection in the following weeks. In the next 4 weeks, "Sooryavanshi" netted Rs. 29.10 crores, despite the competition with other releases, plus, the movie was made available on Netflix after 28 days.## "Sooryavashi" kept pushing towards Rs. 200 crores mark, it finally ended its entire box office India run at approx Rs. 196 crores net. Overseas, the movie grossed Rs. 62.3 crores, helping its worldwide total to finish at approx 293 crores gross. It is produced by Dharma Productions, Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Productions, and Cape Of Good Films.## It will finish as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2021. It also becomes Akshay's first HGOTY of his career after coming close to it in the past. It also stars Katrina Kaif as the female lead, and this marks her 3rd film to finish as HGOTY. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh featured in extended cameos as Singham and Simmba, respectively in the film. ## Stay tuned...

Somy Ali: My mom had a big crush on Rajesh Khanna

Mumbai, Dec 29 (IANS) Late Bollywood actor Rajesh Khanna's birthday is on December 29. He was called the first 'superstar' of Bollywood and there was a mad craze for him during the 1970s. ## On this special day, former Bollywood actress and social activist Somy Ali recalled how her mom had the biggest crush on the late actor. ## "My mom had the biggest crush on him and all she would listen to was his songs, the majority of them sung by Kishore da, which would blast over the tape recorder in our house when I was a kid in Pakistan," she reminisced. ## Her first memory of watching his film was 'Haathi Mere Saathi'. "I enjoyed it because of the love he had for animals and was furious at how cruel the leading lady was to him and jealous of his compassion and love for his elephant. Given I was five years old at the time and could not make the distinction between real life and a movie," said the actress who worked in movies such as 'Aao Pyaar Karen', 'Anth', 'Chupp' and others. ## She also recalled watching 'Anand'. "I remember my mother crying profusely when Kaka ji died in the end. When I was seven years old, my father organised a trip for my mom and me to visit Mumbai," said the former Bollywood actress. ## "My dad was close friends with Dutt Saab's manager, and he facilitated our visiting sets with Amit ji, Dharam ji, Rekha ji, and Kaka ji. So, I was lucky enough to meet him when I was seven and he invited mom and me to his house 'Ashirwaad' for lunch," she shared. For her, the memory of that encounter is as vivid as if it happened yesterday. ## She recalled telling 'Kaka ji' at 7 years of age that when she grows up, she wants to marry him. "He laughed out loud of course, and my mom was shocked and somewhat embarrassed. He was a thorough gentleman and I believe there will never be a superstar like him in the history of Bollywood. That smile, the emotions, the romance and the music, no one can beat that," said Somy. ## According to her, 'Souten', 'Roti', 'Red Rose', 'Anand', 'Bawarchi' and 'Amrit' were his amazing films. ## She enjoyed watching pretty much anything with him and Mumtaz. "Their chemistry was phenomenal. Quite similar to that of Amit ji and Rekha ji or Kajol and Shah Rukh," said the actress. ## Before sleeping, she watches Rajesh Khanna songs. "It's a nightly ritual. The strangest thing is that the day before he died, I was watching 'Kati Patang' at night and I had a bad feeling that something was going to happen to him while I did not know that he was severely unwell. The next morning, I read of his passing in the newspaper and I was bawling like a little kid," she said. ## Stay tuned.

Ayushmann: I'm drawn to unique content, scripts with heart and soul

Mumbai, Dec 29 (IANS) Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who is known for working in socially relevant films, doesn't pick a film considering the conversation that it would trigger. ## Instead, for him it's the content or the script and the filmmaker that seals the deal, rest everything that comes along with the film is a byproduct. ## Ayushmann says, "I'm drawn to unique content, to scripts that have heart and soul, to subjects that I feel are important to be backed. I never choose a film thinking how much conversation it will generate. I'm essentially an artiste who is trying to entertain people first with the best of films. Generating conversation is a byproduct of the quality of script that comes my way." ## He adds, "I only choose a film basis the script and what it has to offer to audiences. It needs to be fresh and novel and if it can propel people into thinking and questioning things about our lives as we know it, then it's a bonus. Birth Anniversary of Superstar Rajesh Khanna

Mumbai, Dec 29, 2021: Rajesh Khanna made his tinsel town debut in 1966 with a film called Aakhri Khat and it was a few films that struggled until 1969 when Rajesh Khanna stormed the nation with two extraordinary blockbusters in the form of Aradhana and Do Raaste and reached to the type of stardom and fan-following which is said to be the biggest ever. Both Aradhana and Do Raaste were also the top2 biggest hit as well as biggest grosser of the year. ## This was the first time any star was witnessing that sort of Craze and Hype among movie-goers. The kind of Superstardom that Rajesh Khanna had witnessed is said to be never seen before. He was the first and the last to test that level of Superstardom. ## Before him, there were great stars, and they have been followed by many, but none evoked the mass hysteria that he did at the height of his meteoric rise, the decade of the 1960s, spilling into the early 1970s. He was the Biggest Romantic star the country has ever seen. ## Rajesh Khanna was a box office emperor and his domination was such at the box office that he delivered 15 consecutive successful films out of which 9 films were Superhits/Blockbusters. ## This was the strongest run-on volume any star has ever witnessed at the box office. The phase between 1969-1973 was enough for Rajesh Khanna to emerge as one of the Biggest Box office stars of all time. ## In his total career - Rajesh Khanna had managed to deliver more than 25 Hit films which is the biggest criteria to join the all-time biggest box office stars and since the independence of India, there have been only 10-12 stars who have delivered 25 or more than 25 Hits in their entire career. ## Rajesh Khanna also had huge Blockbusters to his credit and that too huge scale blockbusters like - Aradhana, Do Raaste, and Haathi Mera Saathi. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

32 Years Of Legendary Blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya

Mumbai, Dec 29, 2021: One of the Greatest Box office Blockbusters of all time - "Maine Pyar Kiya" completes its glorious 32 years at the ticket window. Maine Pyar Kiya was released on 29th December 1989. ## Maine Pyar Kiya was released when video piracy through the VCRs had invaded the film industry and as a result, the footfalls had been shrinking. Not only did Maine Pyar Kiya bring the audiences back to the theaters in hordes but also ended the crude & violent era of cheap and B-grade action films which were made to satisfy the video parlor audience then. ## Maine Pyar Kiya was the first main lead film of Superstar Salman khan. Initially, the film was released on just 16 prints in Bombay and it opened to 90%. The film had managed to maintain a high occupancy of 90% for consecutive straight 12 weeks at the box office. In those times, the opening of the film was measured through occupancy of the film and not in raw numbers like today. ## With 15cr net and 30cr Gross collections - Maine Pyar Kiya emerged not only the Biggest Grosser of the year but also the Biggest Grosser of the decade. Some trade pundits even called that Maine Pyar Kiya overtook the legendary mount Everest collections of Sholay(1975). This is still disputed but nobody can deny that Maine Pyar Kiya was one of the Biggest Box office successes of all time with Manmohan Desai even calling it the Biggest Hit since Alam Ara(1931). ## Maine Pyar Kiya had emerged as the Golden Jubilee Blockbuster. Since the independence of India, there have been very few Blockbuster films that had celebrated the Golden Jubilee in more than 25 centers of the nation and Maine Pyar Kiya was among those rare Blockbusters. Popular Box office website Box office India has even called Maine Pyar Kiya amongst the top10 greatest box office hits. ## The Album of Maine Pyar Kiya was such a huge hit that it sold the most no. of copies in the entire decade of the 1980s that too in presence of huge musicals like Betaab, Ek Duje Ke Liye, and Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The popularity of Maine Pyar Kiya music is unbeaten to date thanks to the late legendary SP Balasubramaniam sir who sang the songs. ## Maine Pyar Kiya was a sensational hit overseas, particularly in the West Indies. Maine Pyar Kiya was the 1st All-time Blockbuster overseas since the traditional markets came into the picture. Maine Pyar Kiya was also the worldwide all-time grosser when it was released. The film was also released in the Telugu version & to date remains one of the fewest dubbed films to become Superhit in southern states. ## On all counts - Maine Pyar Kiya was a crazy worldwide Blockbuster. The film also formed the Biggest Actor/Director collaboration with Salman Khan & Sooraj Barjatya who later went on to deliver another all-India bombastic blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun. ## In terms of business with today's ticket prices - Maine Pyar Kiya stands at around 800cr Gross collections. It is 2nd Biggest hit of Salman khan's career after Hum Aapke Hain Koun and overall remains in the Top5 Biggest hits since the film has released on 29 December 1989. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Delhi Move To Shut Down Cinemas Will Impede Recovery, Fears Industry

Just as the industry had started celebrating the huge box-office successes of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and the Allu Arjun-starrer "Pushpa: Part I", and the much-hyped release of the Ranveer Singh-led Kabir Khan film, "83", the Delhi government's order on Tuesday shutting down cinema theatres and multiplexes have come as a big jolt.## The Arvind Kejriwal government took the decision after the Covid-19 positivity rate in the capital rose alarmingly to 0.55 percent on Sunday and 0.68 percent on Monday. It was a part of its yellow alert drill under the Covid Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).## The makers of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer "Jersey" have already announced that they are postponed the cricket drama's release, which had been slated for Friday, December 31.## Now, the big question is whether the next big-banner release -- S.S. Rajamouli's multi-lingual "RRR" -- will also be affected by the Delhi government's decision, although its primary audiences are in the two Telugu-speaking states.## Trade analysts say Delhi City contributes 7-8 percent of Bollywood's revenue, but their fear is that what happens in the Capital is soon replicated elsewhere, starting with Gurugram and NOIDA.## Responding to the Delhi government's decision, Kamal Gianchandani, President, Multiplex Association of India, said that "it has caused massive uncertainty and could lead to irreparable damage to the Indian Film Industry". The months since March 2020, he emphasized, have been "undeniably the most challenging period faced by Indian cinema theatres in their long history".## Emphasizing the capability of cinema theatres to run shows while following Covid protocols, Gianchandani, who is also the CEO of PVR Pictures Ltd, said: "After being allowed to reopen, cinemas have demonstrated their ability to operate safely for the public and the employees by using the enhanced ventilation systems, raising hygiene standards, and following safety protocols".## He added: "Not a single outbreak of Covid-19 anywhere around the world has been traced to a cinema".## Gianchandani said that instead of closing down cinemas, the Delhi government should consider introducing a "double vaccination requirement" to enter the theatres, "as is the case in some of the other states (including Maharashtra)".## "Alternatively," he added, "the seating capacity restriction of 50 percent can be reintroduced in the cinemas". He called upon the Delhi government "to recognize the unique social, cultural and economic value of the Indian film industry", and to provide "the support it so desperately needs to survive this unprecedented period".## Reflecting on the move, Sumit Kadel, an independent film and trade analyst, said: "Delhi is one of the major markets for the film industry, especially for multiplex-oriented films. The shutting down of cinema theatres in Delhi and imposition of night curfews in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh have resulted in the cancellation of night shows".## All this will have a huge negative impact on the business, Kadel said, adding that movies such as Akshay Kumar's "Prithiviraj" from YRF Films, which were due for release in February, might get postponed.## Media and Internet research analyst Karan Taurani said: "This will create panic among producers, who will decide yet again to defer their release dates, given the uncertainty regarding timings/restrictions." Taurani added that "a decent film" such as "83" had been affected because the "cinema-going sentiment of audiences has taken a big hit in the last 10 days".## He continued: "This will have an adverse impact on windowing terms (four weeks at present and expected to return to the industry average of six to eight weeks by March 2022), distributor share arrangements, and consumer sentiment".## The occupancy percentage at cinema theatres, in fact, has been down to 60 to 30 percent (for big and small films, respectively) of the pre-Covid levels.## Taurani also shed light on how this would affect ticket pricing. He said: "PVR and Inox may bottom at a price point of 25-30 percent above their March 2020 bottom (PVR/Inox at Rs 1,100 and Rs 280, respectively), if the third wave isn't expected to be as severe and dreadful".## Nonetheless, he cautioned, recovery will be delayed because it is up to the states to revise occupancy caps and restrictions.## Stay tuned...
