Mumbai, July 2, 2021: Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer biographical war action drama, Shershaah, becomes the latest Bollywood biggie to skip a theatrical release. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the makers of the film have decided to release Vikram Batra's biopic directly on Amazon Prime Video on August 12 during independence day weekend.
The film traces the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra. Sidharth Malhotra plays a double role as Vikram and his identical twin brother Vishal, while Kiara Advani plays the female lead in the form of Vikram Batra's fiancé Dimple Cheema. The film also features Kiara Advani, Javed Jaaferi, Shiv Pandit among others.
It is directed by Tamil filmmaker Vishnuvardhan in his Hindi directorial debut and produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment. Siddharth Malhotra took to social media and announced the digital premiere of Shershaah with a teaser.
"Heroes live on through their stories. We are honoured to bring to you the true story of the Kargil War hero, Captain Vikram Batra (PVC). A film with a long journey for me & a real-life character I am proud to play. #ShershaahOnPrime comes out on 12th August only on @PrimeVideoIN", Siddharth wrote.
Initially, Shershah was scheduled to release theatrically worldwide on 3 July 2020 but was indefinitely delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In February this year, when things were looking normal, the makers had announced that the film will release in theatres on July 2, 2021, but now they have decided to skip it and directly release it on OTT.
