Mohanlal's 'Marakkar' To Have A Solo Release Exclusively For Three Weeks In Kerala!
Kochi, June 23, 2021: Upcoming National Award-winning Malayalam movie, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, headed by megastar Mohanlal is gearing up for the massive release on August 12 as Onam special. The film, which was originally scheduled for release on 26 March 2020, will also be releasing in dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi languages.
Directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas in association with Moonshot Entertainments and Confident Group, Marakkar is an epic historical war film.
The multi-starrer film has been waiting for its release for a long time. Being one of the biggest-budgeted Malayalam films of all time, the makers of the film want it to have a solo release in Kerala with a record 600+ screens.
As per an agreement reached between Kerala Exhibitors and Producers associations - all screens which open in the state will screen Marakkar "exclusively for 3 weeks", starting from August 12. During this period, no other movie will be allowed to screen in theaters.
Set in the 16th century, the film tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, naval commander of the Samoothiri, known for defending the Malabar Coast against the Portuguese invasion. It is co-written by Priyadarshan and Ani I. V. Sasi.
Apart from Mohanlal in the title role, the movie also stars Keerthy Suresh, Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Manju Warrier, Prabhu, Mukesh, Siddique, and Nedumudi Venu in supporting roles. Even before its release, Marakkar, at the 67th National Film Awards, won three awards including Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and Best Costume.
