Los Angeles, July 4, 2021: As the summer box office continues its progressive rebound in North America, Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero film, Black Widow, which released on Friday (July 9), is all set to take the biggest pandemic era opening at the domestic box office. The movie snares huge $13.2M Thursday night, a pandemic record and on par with previous Marvel's movies.

Black Widow is Marvel's first theatrical offering since Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and now, as the release of the highly-awaited film is getting nearer, the fans are counting the days. The box office projection of the film, despite the fact that it will have a simultaneous release on Disney+ premiere access for an additional $30, is getting better and better with each passing day.

Earlier, Black Widow was projected to score between $65 million and $90 million in the first weekend at the domestic box office. However, very positive reviews from 155 critics have sent the highly anticipated film to a strong 83 percent Rotten Tomatoes score in recent days, which also shuffles the projection of the film.

According to Boxoffice Pro, the ticket pre-sale activity of Black Widow is leagues ahead of the recently released F9 at the same point in the pre-release cycle. Keeping that in mind, Black Widow is now projected to earn between $80M - $110M in the opening domestic weekend, which is 11% higher than the last week's projection. If it opens with the highest projection, Black Widow will be the first Hollywood movie to earn $100M in the opening weekend during the pandemic era.

Directed by Cate Shortland, the upcoming prequel is set to showcase the return of Scarlett Johansson as the titular spy. While the plot details are still being kept under wraps, Black Widow has been confirmed to be set in between the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

Scarlett Johansson will be joined by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour in prominant roles along with O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, and Ray Winstone. The early reviews from Black Widow are highly positive as critics are calling it one of the best solo films of Marvel Studios.

Stay tuned...
