Los Angeles, June 12, 2021: The covid-19 pandemic has affected the entertainment sector worldwide. Now, after more than a year, cinemas around the world have started opening up slowly and seeing new titles releasing on the big screens.
In the US, movie theaters are running closer to, but not quite at full capacity than they were in the days before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, things are surely looking better for the domestic box office with the performance of recent titles.
Paramount Pictures' horror flick, A Quiet Place Part II's success clearly indicating that the mojo of the box office is back. The John Krasinski directorial becomes the first domestic film in the pandemic-hit domestic market to cross $100 million in grosses. The movie is in its third week and still going strong.
This long-awaited follow-up to the 2018 smash-hit raked in around $48 million in its three-day total alone, despite being expected to gross between $30 and $50 million in its debut weekend. In terms of the present scenario, that's an outstanding showing. It stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, who reprise their roles from the first film
Among the other Hollywood titles, Warner Bros', Godzilla vs. Kong is also nearing touching the $100 million ($99 million-and-still-kicking) mark at the US BO. It was, however, released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.
For the upcoming titles, Universal's "F9" and Marvel Studios "Black Widow" are expected to take the domestic box office on fire.
