Log Angeles, May 21, 2021: Prior to domestic release, Fast & Furious 9 off to a flying start in China where it debuted on May 21 on Friday. The movie kick-started the summer box office with a whopping $59.10 million (RMB 380M) on an opening day in China from nearly 7.3 million admissions.
The latest Fast & Furious installment score the biggest Hollywood opening day of the pandemic era and the 2nd biggest behind the Chinese movie Detective Chinatown 3.
The Justin Lin directorial also doing well in Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, and the Middle East and collected around $10.7 million on Wednesday and Thursday. Its cum international box office total including from China reaches $69.8 million.
The opening day in China was the third biggest ever for Universal films behind two previous Fast & Furious pics. F9 is opening first in select overseas markets ahead of its June 25 debut at the North American box office.
A sequel to The Fate of the Furious (2017), F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron.
