Mahendra Singh Dhoni surprised the entire cricket fraternity along with his fans by announcing his retirement from the international cricket on Saturday, August 15. MS Dhoni who has a habit of keeping himself away from the limelight announced his retirement with a formal Instagram post along with a video.

"Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired", read his Instagram post.



However, he might have stunned everyone with a surprise retirement, Chennai Super Kings isn't looking overly concerned with the future of their captain with the side. One of the most loved franchises of the Indian Premier League, CSK wants MS Dhoni to play for them as long as he can.

"He has quit international cricket only. He is going to play for CSK. We want to play for us as long as he wants. In fact, we plan to retain him as a player after the 2021 IPL too", CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told TOI on Sunday (August 16).

MS Dhoni who hasn't played competitive cricket since the world cup 2019 semi-final, is all set to return in the action with the IPL starting on Septemeber 19 in the UAE. However, there are speculations that Dhoni might quit all forms of cricket if CSK who started their training camp on Saturday win the IPL this year.

"The decision to retire from international cricket was typical of Dhoni. But we don't interfere with him when it comes to cricketing decisions. However, we certainly hope that he doesn't take a decision like that a quit CSK", Viswanathan added.

Along with Dhoni, Suresh Raina also announced his retirement from the international cricket minutes after the former India captain took the decision. Like Dhoni, Raina has also been a key player for CSK in the IPL and will be in action in the 13th edition of the tournament.
