Team India captain Virat Kohli remained the only cricketer to be included in the Forbes magazine list of highest-paid 100 athletes in the world in 2020, announced on Friday. He is also the sole Indian to be featured on the list. The right-hand batsman rose to 66th spot from 100th in 2019.
According to Forbes Kohli had estimated total earnings of $26 million ($24m from endorsements and $2m from salary/winnings). Last year his total earnings were $25 million. He is also the only Indian to feature in Forbes list of highest-paid athletes for the second time in a row.
The Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has topped the 2020 list of highest-paid athletes for the first time. With estimated earnings of $106.3 million over the past 12 months, he becomes the first from his sport to top the chart. The tennis star edged out Portugal's football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from the top spot. In 2019, Federer was at number five.
Lionel Messi, who topped the list in 2019 has slipped to the third position with the earning of $104 million over the last 12 months. Cristiano Ronaldo is just ahead of Messi with $105 million earnings in the past year.
American tennis star Naomi Osaka is the highest-paid female athlete in the history of the game with $37.4 million. She is at number 29 while the second-highest-paid female athlete of 2020, Serena Williams is at Number 33.
