Vijay Shankar who nearly lost India the final of Nidahas trophy last year against Bangladesh, thanks to Dinesh Karthik who pulled off a stunner and saved India from an embarrassing defeat, was had a chance to win the game for India against Australia in the second ODI in Nagpur and this time, he didn't make any mistake and provide India an unlike win.
With 11 runs needed in the final over and a well-set batsman (Marcus Stoinis) at the crease, it was difficult for more a part-time bowler but he kept his head and helped to 8-runs win and go 2-0 up in 5-match series.
Though the win was actually set up by the captain Kohli who scored his 40th ODI century on a pitch which was tricky for the batsmen. However, India might have felt 10 runs short but the bowlers made sure that the score was enough to double the lead in the series.
Statically, it was India's 500th win in ODIs and becomes the only second team after Australia to reach the 500 wins landmark. It took 963 matches for India to win their 500th match.
