It was a record-breaking day for India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma as he became the leading run scorer for India in T20Is surpassed regular skipper Virat Kohli during his record-breaking 111* off 61 balls against two times World T20 champion West Indies on Thursday, November 6 at newly named Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
Apart from leading run scorer, Rohit Sharma became the only batsman in the history of T20Is to scored 4 centuries. He left behind New Zealand's Colin Munro (3). Only 36 hundred have been scored so far in the shortest format of the game in international matches and the first century was scored in 2007 by Chris Gayle in World Cup against South Africa.
Rohit Sharma now has 2203 runs in 79 innings with 4 centuries and 15 half centuries while Virat Kohli has scored 2102 runs in 58 innings. Only five batsmen have scored more than 2000 runs in T20Is and Sharma is now second in the list of leading run scorer after New Zealand's Martin Guptill 2271 runs in 73 innings.
