Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021 auction, each of the 8 franchises has released some of their players as Wednesday (January 20) was the last day to submit the players' list to BCCI. Among the big overseas players released by the teams ahead of the auction set to take place in Februry, Steve Smith, Lasith Malinga, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Chris Morris are prominant names.
Chennai Super Kings, which finished second last in the IPL 2020, have released Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, and Murali Vijay while Suresh Raina who didn't play in the IPL 2020 due to personal reasons, has been retained by the team.
