Box Office: RRR Creates All-Time Highest Worldwide Opening Day Record For An Indian Movie

Hyderabad, March 26 - When Prabhas-fronted "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" was released in 2017, it became the first Indian movie to score over 100 crores gross for all languages. 2 years later, another Prabhas movie in the form of "Saaho" did the same but couldn't break "Baahubali 2" record.
And now, after almost 5 years, director SS Rajamouli's "RRR" has breached the fortress of his own directorial "Baahubali 2", and become the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time at the domestic as well overseas box office on the first day.
The period action drama film netted 130 crores* in India on Friday, breaking "Baahubali 2's" record of 121 crores. In Telugu, the film earned 101.2 crores net, again becoming the biggest movie in the languages on its opening day. Baahubali 2 had generated 58 crores in Telugu on day 1 while "Saaho" made 60.40 crores.
In Hindi, "RRR" had a very good opening day, scoring approx. 19 crores net. It took a decent start in the morning shows but picked up towards the evening and night shows after highly positive word of mouth. The film was solid in tier 2 & 3 cities where is recorded houseful shows.
State-wise, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were the top contributors with 102.5 crores gross, followed by Karnataka with 14.50 crores, Tamil Nadu with 10 crores, and Kerala with 4 crores. The rest of India including the Hindi belt generated 25 crores.
Overseas, the film has had a record-breaking debut, grossing 67 crores. In the USA, "RRR" has taken the biggest opening for an Indian movie ever with $5.5 million (41.95 Cr.) on Friday, including Thursday previews of $3.3 million. The movie was strong in Australia as well and made $702K (4 Cr.) on the first day. Overall, the worldwide day 1 cume of "RRR" stands at 223 crores gross, beating "Baahubali 2" (218 cr.).
The epic period action drama film stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles. Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt play extended cameo appearances while Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, Olivia Morris, and Shriya Saran feature in supporting roles. Produced by DVV Entertainment, "RRR" is a fictional story about two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), who fought against the British Raj and Nizam of Hyderabad respectively.
