Adivi Sesh's 'Major' Scores Excellent Opening Weekend At The Worldwide Box Office

Mumbai, June 6 - The biopic of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan is winning hearts as well as box office numbers. The Adivi Sesh-starrer was released on June 3 in multiple languages. It follows the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army officer who was killed in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, "Major" has had an excellent opening weekend at the worldwide box office, grossing Rs. 35.65 crores in just 3 days. The movie has already entered into profit zone, and with strong word of mouth by its side, it is heading towards a blockbuster.
The Telugu version of the movie is leading its biz as it scored 17.85 crores net box office collection. This includes 11.25 crores in Telugu states. The Hindi version overall remained low with 3.97 crores net in the opening weekend. It, however, witnessed an upward trend over the weekend and the word of mouth is also very positive.
At the overseas box office, "Major" minted approx. 9.3 crores gross in the first three days. In the USA, the movie made $900K, which is the biggest ever for Adivi Sesh. Released by Weekend Cinema, the movie debuted in 360 theaters in the USA, making $1736 per theater. It has already become Adivi Sesh's biggest grosser in the USA and will cross $1 million soon.
Produced by Sony Pictures International Productions, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and A+S Movies, "Major" has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages. Adivi Sesh (in his Hindi film debut) plays the title character, in addition to writing the script. The film also stars Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma and Anish Kuruvilla.
