Kochi, June 9, 2021: Malayalam superstar Fahadh Faasil's upcoming political crime drama film, Malik is one of the most waited Malayalam films. The movie was scheduled for May 13 release on the occasion of Eid in theaters, however, the devastating second wave of the covid-19 pandemic forced the makers to postpone it once again.
Fahadh Faasil's 'Malik' has been effectively postponed on multiple occasions. Now, as theaters are closed and there is no information when they will open, there are rumours that Malik is heading for direct-to-digital release. Intrestingly, Faasil's previous three films - C U Soon, Irul, and Joji, directly landed on OTT platforms, which angers Kerala Film Body.
The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) had warned Fahadh Faasil to refrain from releasing his movies directly on OTTs
by overlooking theaters. The Film Body had said in a statement that his films will not be allowed to release in theatres if he continues to release his films on OTT platforms.
Now, the question is, will Fahadh Faasil overlook Film Body's warning or he will wait for cinemas to reopen and release Malik at the ultimate medium of Entertainment? While there is no clarity yet on this, there is one thing is for sure that he might have to face conscience if his releases Malik directly on OTT platform.
While Faasil's decision remains in question, the theaters owners will be hoping that the movie releases in cinemas as they have been badly affected due to the covid-19 pandemic. Malik is written and directed by Mahesh Narayanan and produced by Anto Joseph under the banner of Anto Joseph Film Company. It also stars Nimisha Sajayan, and Joju George in prominant roles.
