The Super Mario Bros. Movie Eyes $350+ Million Worldwide Opening Weekend After Impressive Start

Los Angeles, April 7 - Universal Pictures/Illumination's computer-animated adventure film The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to outshine the initial box office projections ($225+ million worldwide), that too by a huge margin.
Based on Nintendo's Mario video game franchise, "Super Mario Bros." has already grossed $120.7 million at the global box office in just 2 days, and with Friday - Sunday weekend due, the movie is looking to go beyond $350 million mark in the extended 5-day opening weekend.
At the domestic (North America) box office, Super Mario Bros. had the biggest opening day ever for a video game adaptation feature with a mighty $31.7 million on Wednesday, followed by the historic Thursday with $26.5 million (the biggest Thursday ever for an animated movie).
The movie started the weekend after grossing a mammoth $55 million Friday, the biggest non-opening Friday ever. The total domestic cume after the first three 3 days stands at $113.3 million and the 5-day weekend is now projected to reach $195 million - $220 million.
The collection coming from international markets is equally impressive with $62.10 million over 60 markets in the first two days. Universal Pictures is projecting an offshore launch of $170+ million over the 5-day weekend. The studio is expecting an overall $368 million global debut which will make it the biggest global opening ever for an animated movie.
The film is soaring high with audience ratings after the impressive 'A' CinemaScore despite not being loved by the critics. The audience score of Super Mario Bros. is currently at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes while the critics' score is at 54%.
