Suriya Fronted Tamil Film 'Soorarai Pottru' Is The Highest Rated Indian Movie On IMDb

Chennai, May 17, 2021: Kollywood superstar Suriya may have received criticism for his move of releasing his film, "Soorarai Pottru" directly on a digital platform, but the movie got appreciation from one and all, not only in India but also from the global audience.

"Soorarai Pottru", which is based on the life of the Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath, received rave reviews from critics and audiences for its story and brilliant acting by everyone in the film. Viewers lauded Suriya for his act and Sudha Kongara for brilliant direction.



Now, after winning the hearts of people, Soorarai Pottru is one of the highest-rated movies of all time on IMDb. Among the IMDb's Top 1000 movies based on the ratings, "Soorarai Pottru" is ranked third with 9.1 ratings out of 10 in the list, only behind the 1994 American drama film, "The Shawshank Redemption" (9.3), and the 1972 American crime film, "The Godfather" (9.2).

This Suriya starrer is also the only Indian film in the top 50 most-rated movies on IMDb. R Madhavan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Shraddha Srinath starrer Vikram Vedha (2017) and Aamir Khan headed Dangal (2016), is the second most-rated Indian film with 8.4 ratings each and at number 58, and 60 in the list respectively.

The 1994 American drama film, Forrest Gump, which inspires Aamir Khan's upcoming movie, "Laal Singh Chaddha", is at number 13 with an IMDb rating of 8.8.



Meanwhile, Soorarai Pottru has got selected for the prestigious Shanghai Film Festival. Previously, it was also selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards which took place on February 28 and was made available for screening at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga under the banners of 2D Entertainment, and Sikhya Entertainment, Soorarai Pottru also star Paresh Rawal, and Aparna Balamurali with Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas amongst others in supporting roles. It was released on November 12 last year on Amazon Prime Video.
