'PS-1' Becomes The Second Tamil Movie To Cross $1M In The USA For Premiere

Los Angeles, September 30 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has crossed $1 million in the USA for premiere shows. It has become the second Tamil movie of all time to achieve this milestone after Rajinikanth's Kabali, which grossed $2 million.
Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan, the film's reported gross collection in the USA for premieres is $1.02 million from 416 locations. The movie witnessed a significant jump in advance sales in the last 48 hours to breach the $1 million mark. The premiere numbers are likely to be finished at over $1.10 million.
Sarigama Cinemas is the USA distributing partner of the film and it is reported that the studio has allocated Premium Large Format screens like IMAX, XD, RPX, etc. for the entire first week in the USA for "PS-1". The advance booking for the first full day is also good.
Meanwhile, the movie is getting mixed to positive response from critics and the general audience alike in India. It is expected to score big numbers for the first day, both at the domestic and overseas box office. The advance booking for the second day in India is also very good.
Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, "PS-1" tells the story of the early life of Arulmozhivarman, who would become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja I (947–1014). The film stars an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala among others.
