Mani Ratnam's Star-Studded Magnum Opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' To Release In Two Parts; First Part To Debut In 2022

Chennai, July 19, 2021: Mani Ratnam's long-awaited epic historical drama, Ponniyin Selvan, has been confirmed to release in two parts, first to debut in summer 2022. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic five-book series novel of the same name, the movie has an ensemble cast featuring Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi among others.

Backed by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies along with Allirajah Subaskaran's Lyca Productions, the story of the film chronicles the early days of Arulmozhivarman, one of the most powerful kings in the south, who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. Kalki visited Sri Lanka three times to gather information for it.



On Monday (July 19), the makers of the film released a brand new poster, confirming it a two-part release with a tagline of "The golden era comes to life!". The poster features a sword against a shield that has a fierce tiger's face roaring on it. The makers also confirmed that the first part of the movie will hit theaters in 2022.

Ponniyin Selvan has been co-written by Ratnam along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. The music of the film has been scored by Ratnam's regular collaborator and Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman while Ravi Varman is handling the Cinematography.
