Los Angeles, August 30 - A lot has happened within Warner Bros. Discovery over the last few weeks with new leadership coming to the scene. In its quest to be the next Marvel, the studio behind DC superheroes has made multiple changes in the lineup of future films, one of them being the cancellation of the release of HBO Max's "Batgirl".
Apart from its own international issues, Warner Bros. is dealing with outside noises too. The studio is having trouble with its upcoming DC film "The Flash", thanks to controversies because of Ezra Miller who plays the titular role. Now, according to Variety, the studio was not happy with the development of "Zack Snyder's Justice League" too.
"Zack Snyder's Justice League" was a result of a massive fan movement on social media which forced the studio to develop the Snyder-cut version of Justice League. However, Warner Bros. insiders believe that "Zack Snyder's Justice League" never should've happened.
Rather than quiet the unceasing online campaigning to #ReleasetheSnyderCut, the four-hour HBO Max feature only further entrenched the vocal and extremely online "Snyderverse" fanbase in opposition to the leadership at the studio in general and at DC in particular.
As per Variety, the "Snyderverse" fanbase may be hard to win over, but DC has to do a better job of cultivating the kind of compelling franchises that will enable them to build up the kind of passionate, engaged, and excited fanbase that can drown out the haters.
In another major development, it is reported that Legendary Entertainment is planning to part ways with Warner Bros. and make movies with either Sony or Paramount Pictures in the future. The two companies reunited three years ago, but it seems the ongoing development at Warner Bros. may become another reason for their split.
