Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun: Maverick' Creates All-Time Record Ahead Of Its Big Release

Los Angeles, May 27 - It has been a long wait for the sequel to Tom Cruise's Top Gun and it finally hits theaters after 36 years with flying colors in the form of Top Gun: Maverick. Touted as one of the finest sequels ever made in Hollywood history, Top Gun 2 is in the race for all-time records at the box office.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick, is all set to take the biggest opening ever of Cruise's career and it has begun with extraordinary advance sales. According to the ticketing website Fandango, the movie created an all-time record for Crusie by selling more tickets on the platform prior to release than any other film throughout Cruise's entire career.



Fandango didn't reveal the numbers but it announced that the movie is indeed now the biggest pre-sales record-holder. Cruise's previous biggest pre-seller was Mission Impossible: Fallout. Not only on the ticket window, but Top Gun 2 is also the joint best-reviewed film of Cruise on Rotten Tomatoes and has the best ever audience score.

According to a Hollywood trade analyst, Top Gun 2 is tracking to earn between $100M - $125M in the 4-day opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office and about $180 million worldwide. It is by far the biggest ever start in Cruise's career. It has also created the record of the widest ever release in the Hollywood history, by crossing Lion King

The film stars Tom Cruise as test pilot Maverick, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer. Cruise and Kilmer reprise their roles from the first film. "Top Gun: Maverick" is dedicated to Top Gun director Tony Scott, who died in 2012.
