Los Angeles, July 12 - Director Taika Waititi's second Thor movie - "Thor: Love and Thunder" has been released in theaters. Unlike "Thor: Ragnarok", the 4th installment in this superhero franchise got low ratings from critics and audiences alike.
Thor will return with the 5th installment, but after "Thor: Love and Thunder", the speculations are making noise about who will direct it and will Chris Hemsworth return to play this iconic comic-book superhero. Interestingly, the post-credits card ending "Thor 4" was a surprise for the eight-time Marvel star as it introduces a major MCU superhero.
Well, in an interview with Insider (via comicbook, Waititi revealed that he would love to return to the director's chair and complete his Thor trilogy only with Hemsworth, who, in one of the recent interviews said that he would play Thor "until someone says get off the stage".
"That was a surprise to me, too. I'm not joking," Waititi told Insider of Marvel confirming Thor's eventual return. "I saw it in the theater and I was like, 'Oh, shit. Really?' Even Chris was like, 'What?' But, of course, he'll be back. He's the best character. I mean, I may be a little biased, but he's the most fun to watch".
"Now, I don't know what would be next. I would definitely do one, but only if Chris did it," Waititi said. "But it would need to be something surprising and unexpected for me to want to do it, like what would be the new take? The battles and all the fighting is fine, but I would want something that feels unexpected when it comes to the story. Like making just a $5 million movie with no fighting at all, just Thor on a road trip. Like [Alexander Payne's 2013 film] Nebraska", he added.
Marvel Studios has not yet announced Thor 5 or when Thor might return.
Meanwhile, despite the mixed talks among the audiences and being rated one of the lowest MCU movies by critics, "Thor 4" opened to a mighty $303 million worldwide on the opening weekend, making it the biggest opening ever of the franchise. The movie cost a whopping $250 million to make, which makes it the costliest Thor movie ever.
The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Taika Waititi as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the Guardians of the Galaxy.
