Box Office: 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Drops From Top 3 Domestic Positions For The First Time Since Debut In December 2021

Los Angeles, March 9 - Tom Holland-fronted "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has completed 12 weekends at the domestic box office. And for the first time since its debut in December 2021, the superhero movie has dropped from the top 3 positions, thanks to the new DC superhero release, "The Batman".
While Robert Pattinson-headed "The Batman" comfortably took the first position by a long way for $134 million opening weekend launch, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" slipped to number 4, grossing $4.4 million in its 12th domestic weekend.
Despite losing the top 3 positions, the Marvel/Sony film is very much is in the race to cross $800 million domestically, which could be a miraculous achievement during the covid-19 pandemic. It has so far grossed $786.5 million, already the 3rd biggest movie of all time in North America, after "Star Wars-The Force Awakens" ($936M), and "Avengers: Endgame" ($858M).
Internationally, the Jon Watts-directed is still catching the interests of the movie-goers and has grossed $1.08 billion without a single penny from China. The global total of the film stands at $1.866 billion, the 6 biggest of all time.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home", which is the end of the Homecoming trilogy, came at a time when the box office was in dire need of some miracle to happen. The film has not only been that for the theater owners but also proved that big-screen experience is irreplaceable. It was the biggest hope and it turned out to be a box office savor, thanks to the twists and turns it brought on the screens.
In the film, Peter Parker (Holland) asks Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to use magic to make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again following its public revelation at the end of Far From Home. When the spell goes wrong, the multiverse is broken open which allows visitors from alternate realities to enter Parker's universe.
It stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire in prominent roles.
