Los Angeles, March 15 - DC's next superhero flick, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods finally is hitting theaters this Friday after multiple delays due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, the sequel to Shazam! (2019) will be released in 77 international markets along with domestic this weekend. At the domestic (North America) box office, Shazam 2 will be released at approx. 4300 theaters, and as per the Deadline, it could open between $35 million - $40 million on the opening weekend.
Internationally, Fury of the Gods will start rolling out from Wednesday to Friday and it is projected to be a $45 million - $50 million offshore start. Overall, the sequel is tracking an $80+ million worldwide opening ($80M - $85M), which is lower than the 2019 original ($53.5M domestic, $102M WW).
Shazam 2, however, might surprise at the North American box office, much like Creed III and Scream VI, which blew away the box office projections with openings of $58.3 million and $44.4 million, respectively over the last two weekends.
Starring Zachary Levi in the titular role, Fury Of The Gods shows Billy Batson and his foster siblings, who transform into superheroes by saying "Shazam!", forced to get back into action and fight the Daughters of Atlas. They must stop them from using a weapon that could destroy the world.
The movie will open on March 17 in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
