Box Office: Marvel's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Explodes To A Massive Opening Day In India

Mumbai, December 16 - Marvel Studios once again proved why it is such a huge movie brand in India. The studio's latest superhero movie in association with Sony/Colombia Pictures, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is off to a thundering an estimated Rs. 40.00 crores gross on an opening day in India across languages.
Released on a non-holiday (Thursday), the Tom Holland-fronted scored the 3rd biggest box office total in India since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, only behind Telugu movie "Vakeel Saab" (Rs. 46.50 cr.), and Tamil blockbuster "Master" (Rs. 40.40 cr). It may cross Master day 1 when the final number comes and take the second spot.
The large share of the opening day's collection came through the English version, followed by Hindi. In Hindi, "No Way Home" scored in the range of Rs. 7-8 crores, making it the second-best opening after Akshay Kumar's blockbuster "Sooryavanshi's" Rs. 26.29 crores net, in 2021.
Among the Hollywood movies in India, the Jon Watts-directed falls at the second rank, only after Marvel's own flick, "Avengers: Endgame" (2019), which opened to a massive Rs. 53.60 crores net over 2845 screens. "No Way Home", however, has had the widest release ever for a Hollywood movie in India, releasing over 3264+ screens. "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018), which was released on 2000+ screens, had netted Rs. 31.30 crores on the first day.
Despite the all-time high ticket rates across multiplex chains, "No Way Home" saw a large number of Indians stepping into theaters. The 3rd MCU Spider-Man movie opened to a highly positive response worldwide, and India was no different.
