Mumbai, March 24 - John Wick is back with a bang and set to create new records at the box office. The Keanu Reeves-fronted action thriller has taken the biggest start of the franchise at the domestic (North America) as well as the overseas box office.
The Chad Stahelski-directed flick opened to an excellent $8.9 million Thursday previews which is just $150K less than the combined previews collection of the first three John Wick movies. The movie is tracking $70+ million opening weekend, which will be the highest in the franchise.
Impressively, each of the John Wick films has substantially increased its opening weekend release after release. The original "John Wick" (2014) opened with $14 million, followed by 2017's "John Wick: Chapter 2" ($30.4 million) and 2019's "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" ($56.8 million).
Meanwhile, the movie has also taken a surprisingly good start at the Indian box office, scoring an estimated 6+ crores gross in all languages. The movie had its paid previews on Thursday in which it collected around 3 crores gross.
The first three John Wick films did a combined lifetime business of around 20 crores and here, "John Wick 4" is on track to surpass those figures in the opening weekend itself. Worldwide, the highly-rated film is tracking a franchise-best $120+ million start, including $50+ million internationally.
