Box Office: Halloween Kills Hits Big At North America BO Despite Simultaneous Streaming Release

Los Angeles, October 17 - The worldwide box office is slowly returning to the pre-covid level with each passing day as the pandemic is slowing down. The recent box office numbers, especially in North America, are indicating that the good days are not far away for exhibitors and distributors.
The latest Hollywood slasher film, Halloween Kills, which is a sequel to 2018's Halloween and the twelfth installment in the Halloween franchise, surprised at the domestic box office and debuted with $50.4M in a 3-day weekend from 3705 theaters, the biggest opening for a horror film in two years.
The David Gordon Green-directed had by far the biggest opening weekend box office for any Hollywood film during the pandemic releasing both in theaters and on a streaming platform simultaneously. Halloween Kills earned approx $19 million more than Warner Bros.' Godzilla vs Kong ($31.7M) in the first weekend despite its day-and-day release on Peacock.
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and James Jude Courtney among others, Halloween Kills was the number one film at the domestic box office weekend and doubled the second-best James Bond "No Time To Die" ($24.3M). Daniel Craig's swansong as Agent 007, the 25th Bond film is about to cross the $100M mark in North America. At the end of its second weekend, the movie stands at $99.5M while the worldwide collection is heading towards $450M without China.
Meanwhile, Marvel/Sony's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" grossed approx $54M this weekend at the international box office and takes its total worldwide to $284 million, including a $168M domestic collection. Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings", the biggest Hollywood blockbuster of pandemic-era, has earned over $400 million worldwide, including $218.1M in North America.
