Mumbai, July 27, 2021: Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn's digital debut series, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness on Disney+Hotstar, is on a signing spray and getting bigger and bigger with each passing day. Rudra, which is a Hindi adaptation of the British TV series "Luther" starring Idris Elba in the lead roles, was announced in April this year.
The crime drama thriller series will have an ensemble cast featuring some very talented artists. In June, it was reported that South Indian actress, Raashii Khanna will play the female lead in the series. Confirming her inclusion, Applause Entertainment has brought the actress on board to star alongside Ajay. Recently, Esha Deol was also confirmed to reunite with Ajay in the series for the first time in 13 years.

It is really rare to get something that pushes you out of your comfort zone and actually challenges you as an actor and Rudra just gave me that opportunity. I am extremely elated. Looking forward to an amazing experience on set with talented actors like Ajay Devgn, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni amongst others, and I am excited to collaborate with Applause Entertainment and BBC Studios for this one", Raashii said in a statement.
Apart from Raashii and Esha, the makers have also roped in Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi, And Ashwini Kalsekar to play important roles. It is the first time when Atul Kulkarni will share screen space with Ajay Devgn. Atul is a revered name in the industry and has entertained the audiences with his brilliant performances over the years.
Kulkarni said, "Digital content is dynamic and has altered the art of storytelling. Rudra – The Edge of Darkness is a gripping series that will surely disrupt the genre of cop dramas in India. With Rajesh Mapuskar helming the project, it will be exciting to work on this thriller. The series also comprises a stellar cast, and I can’t wait to begin filming this one. I am delighted to team up with Applause Entertainment again post the hit political drama City of Dreams".
Reportadly, Rudra — The Edge of Darkness has been planned for multiple seasons with the first being made for 8-10 episodes. It is said to be Disney Plus Hotstar's biggest Indian show ever which follows the cases of a troubled yet intelligent officer who is trapped between an unrelenting approach to investigating many murders and his attempts to restore his marriage, with a bold and genre-defining story and fascinating characters.
The series will reportadly be directed by Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Ventilator director Rajesh Mapuskar. Sameer Nair of Applause Entertainment is producing the series in association with BBC Studios India. It is expected to go on floors across locales in Mumbai soon.
