Mumbai, January 26 - Yash Raj Films finally has its hands-on success after a string of flops as its highly-anticipated spy action thriller Pathaan is off to a supersonic start at the box office.
Starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is making his comeback after more than 4 years, "Pathaan" turned cinema halls into stadiums on the opening day and took a mammoth start. The film looks like has scored over 57 crores net on the first day and crossed "KGF 2" (53.95 crores) to emerge biggest Hindi opener ever.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, "Pathaan", is set to become the first ever Bollywood film to reach 100 crores net in two days. The second day is expected to be higher that the first day due to the national holiday of Republic Day.
The advance booking for the day is higher than the opening day and the trade is expecting 60+ crore a second day. While it has all the chances to become the fastest Bollywood flick to reach 100 crores net, it will be the joint fastest Hindi language movie to do so with "KGF 2" which achieved the feat last year.
"Pathaan", also starring John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, has already become the biggest non-holiday opener Hindi film, beating "Baahubali 2" which scored approx. 42 crores net. The critics' reviews and audience word of mouth are highly positive for "Pathaan" which was clearly visible during the evening and night shows on the first day. The 5-day extended opening weekend is looking at 200+ crores net.
