Mumbai, July 24 - The scenario of the box office has undergone a drastic change post the pandemic. Nowadays the movies are struggling to register a double-digit opening despite intense promotions and a huge number of screens. This trend makes flops much better verdict in recent times as the majority of the movies are ending up as disasters.
Movies like 83, Samrat Prithiviraj, Bachchan Paandey, and now Shamshera to site some examples. The main reason why movies fail to get core audiences is that it fails to create curiosity among the audiences and offer them something new. The only major success that we can pinpoint post-pandemic is Sooryavanshi, The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Now the low opening trend is a major concern for upcoming movies like Laal Singh Chaddha, Vikram Vedha, and Bhaijaan. But still, there are hopes from these movies and the fate of whom would finally answer the question of whether Bollywood is still star oriented or not.
Opening day figures of movies majorly depend upon the star power rather than that of the content basically, and there have been instances where many average movies have managed to register huge openings before the pandemic. Some well-known examples of the above-mentioned are Salman Khan's Race 3 and Bharat also Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan.
Other internal factors like music, trailer, etc also play a major role in pulling the audiences to the big screens too. Post pandemic Akshay Kumar is the only major star who has released his movies but the problem with him is that he comes on big screens every 2 months and due to this over-exposure, he is not able to pull large crowds as a superstar should have done but still in 2022 he has managed to register two 10+ crore opening which other stars are struggling to achieve.
But on the brighter side of things, the hopes for a revival of the box office are high as Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, the two Superstars who dominated the box office last decade are coming with big movies in the months to come.
