Jayantilal Gada Opens Up About The Huge Success Of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' And His Expectations From 'RRR'

Mumbai, March 17 - Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has proved her worth at the box office in the past, but the success of her recently released "Gangubai Kathiawadi" has surprised the industry people. The biographical drama, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has crossed Rs. 100 crores net mark and is nearing Rs. 200 crores worldwide.
Though there was no doubt on Alia's credibility, the industry was fearing due to the covid-19 pandemic. The buzz around the film wasn't strong before the release but once it was released in theaters on February 25th, the biz kept on building upon the strong WOM and becoming a box office hit.
Jayantilal Gada, who released the film under his company, PEN India Ltd., is ecstatic about the success of the film. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Gada said, "It's a very happy feeling that Gangubai Kathiawadi has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. Even overseas, it's doing well. We feel proud that PEN Studio backed this film. People didn't expect much from the film, particularly due to its subject".
Dr. Gada added that he had confidence in Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has a very good track record at the box office. "I had confidence in Sanjay Leela Bhansali. And he had confidence in the film. He always makes great films without a doubt. So, we at PEN decided to bet on this venture".
After testing the success with Alia Bhatt-fronted, Dr. Gada is now gearing up for the release of SS Rajamouli-directed "RRR", which will also be released by PEN India Ltd. in the Hindi market. It is undoubtedly the biggest film for the company and Dr. Gada is hopeful that it will become a big hit.
When asked if "RRR" can repeat the success of Rajamouli's last film and the all-time blockbuster "Baahubali - The Conclusion, the filmmaker said, "When Baahubali 2 did that sort of business, our life was different. People's lives have changed in these 2 years. Nevertheless, the film will generate even greater hype and craze than Baahubali, that's for sure. How huge that craze would be, we'll come to know on March 25. People should be entertained, that's paramount for us".
Apart from "RRR", Jayantilal Gada will also release John Abraham-fronted "Attack", which is slated to release a week after "RRR" on April 1st, and Shahid Kapoor-starrer "Jersey" on April 14.
