Mumbai, February 7 - Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" is one of the highest-grossing films worldwide in 2023 so far. The spy action thriller had surpassed Hollywood tentpoles, grossing a mighty $102.50 million (848 crores) in 13 days at the global box office.
"Pathaan" is currently the 5th highest-grossing film worldwide in 2023, which is one of the rare occasions for an Indian title to find a spot in the top 10. The movie has surpassed all expectations and turned out to be the biggest grosser for the entire primary cast and director Siddharth as well as Yash Raj Films.
Meanwhile, the top 2 spots among the highest-grossing films this year have been taken by Chinese films - "Full River Red" and "The Wandering Earth 2", which also happen to be the only films so far in 2023 to top $500 million at the box office.
"Full River Red", a historical suspense comedy film, has grossed approx. $595 million (¥4.05 billion) as of February 6. It is currently the 8th highest-grossing Chinese film of all time and will soon be in the top 5. "The Wandering Earth 2", a prequel to the 5th highest-grossing Chinese movie of the same name, has grossed $503 million (¥3.42 billion) and is currently the second biggest movie worldwide in 2023.
"Boonie Bears: Guardian Code", an animated science fiction comedy film, is currently the 3rd biggest movie this year with approx. $187 million, followed by the Chinese "Hidden Blade", a World War II espionage thriller, at number 4 with approx. $118 million.
