Amazon Prime Video Paid A Whopping Rs. 450 Crores To Acquire Post-Theatrical Rights For 6 Yash Raj Films' Film!

Mumbai, October 30 - A couple of days ago, Amazon Prime Video and Yash Raj Films signed a deal for the post-theatrical streaming rights of YRF's 4 upcoming films that include Bunty Aur Babli 2, Prithviraj, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Shamshera. These films will be available to stream on Prime Video after 4-weeks of theatrical release.
As per the industry insiders, Amazon Prime Video has paid Rs. 250 crores for the four aforementioned films, which is one of the biggest deals for movies, streaming after theatrical release. Earlier, there were reports that Amazon had offered Rs. 450 crores to YRF for direct-to-digital release of the said films. However, Aditya Chopra of YRF was always wanted his films to have theatrical release first.
Apart from the 4 aforementioned films, Prime Video has reportedly acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of YRF's two more most-awaited films - Tiger 3 and Pathan. However, neither Prime Video nor YRF made an official announcement regarding the two films but it is said that the two companies reached a deal that will give access to Prime Video to stream Tiger 3 and Pathan after 8-weeks of theatrical release.
Salman Khan starrer "Tiger 3" and Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathan" are undoubtedly the biggest projects in the YRF slate and these two films will hold great value even after theatrical release. According to reports, Prime Video was keen to bag both and offered a whopping Rs 200 crores offer for 8-weeks theatrical window. This combined make an Rs. 450 crores deal for 6 YRF films - an eye-catching one, surely.
Among the six YRF films - Bunty Aur Babli 2 (Nov. 19), Prithviraj (Jan 21, 2022), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (Feb 25, 2022), and Shamshera (Mar 18, 2022) release dates have been confirmed while Tiger 3 and Pathan, which are currently under productions, will be releasing in the second half of 2022.
