The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is the minimum qualification required in India for a person to be eligible for the entrance examination for teachers.
The test is mandatory for teaching jobs in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8. There are two papers: Paper 1 is meant for teachers opting for Class 1 to Class 5, and Paper 2 for Class 6 to Class 8.
It is conducted by both the central government and state governments of India. Most states conduct their own TET.
The test is conducted in order to fulfill and achieve the goals of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.
UPTET written exam contains two papers: Paper I - for primary level teachers Paper II - for Junior level teachers Candidates can appear for either of the Papers or can take both exams.
